Philo-Poem diploma with moon calendar drawing by Soo Youn Kim, MADS Gallery 2021

From the international exhibition “Philo-Poem”, 2021

Soo Youn Kim is a young South Korean artist who expresses herself through a production that defies classification. Her work belongs to the broader world of conceptual art, marked by an emblematic union of colors, shapes, sounds, and time.

Drawing from the color philosophy of Kandinsky, the artist makes concrete the idea that music and color can be supreme vehicles of meaning. In “Sound OF MARCH 2021”, exhibited at the international show “Philo-Poem”, she connects musical theory with celestial motion—converting sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset into tones via the circle of fifths.

This daily variation produces a composition that changes each day, making time both visual and audible. Her interpretation of the cyclical nature of time—through a 24-division clock and musical transformation—anchors her conceptual exploration. The work binds place and moment with sound, demonstrating how time flows and resonates differently around the globe.

“The artist has the ability to tell the history of the world between music, colors, shapes and time.”
